I know I shouldn’t but I can’t help but look at Rob Owen’s (the Post Gazette TV writer) blog. Comments about the local TV stations often appear in the mant of them and I get so annoyed by what people have to say. Recently there was and Q&A where people could write in to ask him questions and for once Rob Owen stuck up for the stations when people made ridiculous comments. For instance on man wrote, “What’s with Sally Wiggin, et al., using those ear phones to give their reports while they’re in Tampa? Are they thinking that Mike Tomlin will suddenly want to tell them something? Looks rather stupid. Rob, don’t let them do that to you when they downsize your job.” Get a life dude. These people aren’t up there to look pretty, they’re doing their job. If they can’t hear then they can’t do their job; hence the large headphones. I hope this hillbilly never wore a pair of protective goggle while welding his derby cars because he suse would have looked like an idiot. The public says that they don’t want bimbos on tv that don’t know what they’re talking about and are just there to look pretty. Then quit commenting on their appearances. Who the hell cares what they wear or how their hair looks or how thier makeup is done. I can tell you these people are professionals so try to get past Sally’s large headphones and what what Wendy Bell’s hair looks like at 5pm and listen to what they have to say you just might learn something.

Since it is a new year, I have decided to try new things. I’m exercising more, eating new and healthier foods, reading new books, and even traveling (I leave for Cozumel and Grand Cayman in March!), and I also thought I would try a new style of writing, so I have decided to blog. I’m not sure if I should try a certain theme to stick to, like things happening in the city, or fashion, or tv, and maybe eventually I will, but for now, I suppose I will just write about myself since that it what I know the most about! I’m a junior in college for broadcast journalism, a career I am in love with. I intern at a local news station and really hope to snag a job there before they kick me out. Last semester I was in their new department, which was a blast. I worked with all the anchors and reporters and got to do some stories myself, even though I was not allowed to be shown on tv… bummer! It sucks to do all that work and not get credit. And even though i stronly believe that iternships are valuable to an education especially in this field, I can’t help but sometimes think it’s slave labor. For instance, I am now in thier creative services department (they make all of the promotional spots you see for the station) and from the time I walk in in the morning, I am busy. They are short staffed at the moment, but I am more of an employee than an intern, they actually depend on me, so why not pay me??? I’m a broke college student!! Even still, I wouldn’t trade it for anything, I love what i do and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
